BMW (Bayerische Motoren Werke GmbH) was founded on March 7, 1916 and is now one of the major automobile manufacturers in the international market. Its major brands include BMW, MINI and Rolls-Royce Motor Cars.

It has been announced that 2007 will be the year when BMW will start manufacturing and selling cars in India. Along with sales subsidiary in Delhi region, it will start operating an assembly plant for BMW 5 and 3 series in Chennai. Soon after this it wishes to capture the entire market of metropolitan cities in India.
